Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accompanied by his party MLAs, has left for Delhi to meet President Droupadi Murmu regarding the recent defection of seven Rajya Sabha MPs to the BJP. CM Mann expressed the ongoing commitment to safeguarding Punjab’s rights and interests.
The seven AAP Rajya Sabha members who decided to join the BJP include Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, and Vikramjit Sahney, all except Swati Maliwal representing Punjab in the Upper House. CM Mann plans to address the issue of what he termed as “illegal” and “unlawful defection” by these MPs during his meeting with President Murmu.
Following the confidence motion victory in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mann emphasized the enduring public trust in the AAP government and its support base. He positioned AAP as a resilient national force, unaffected by defections, and highlighted the misuse of institutions like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI, warning against actions that undermine the Constitution.
