Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remarked that Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon, who was previously close to Capt Amarinder Singh, now seems to have distanced himself from the former Chief Minister. The reasons behind this shift remain known only to the two leaders, creating a sense of mystery surrounding their changed dynamics.
Responding to queries from the media regarding Amarinder Singh’s disassociation from Dhillon’s appointment as party president, Chief Minister Mann highlighted that Amarinder Singh had previously supported Dhillon during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Sangrur. The Chief Minister further emphasized the significant electoral performance of independent candidates compared to the BJP in recent civic body elections in Punjab, indicating a rejection of the BJP’s agenda by the electorate.
Expressing optimism about the future political scenario in the state, CM Mann projected that in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, the Congress, Akalis, and BJP would likely compete for the second, third, and fourth positions, with AAP poised to secure a comfortable victory with the people’s support. He also defended the conduct of the recent municipal elections, asserting that they were conducted fairly, transparently, and peacefully, despite opposition claims of impropriety.
Mann pointed out that the opposition’s defeat in the civic polls was a result of their failure to present a positive agenda to the voters, contrasting it with AAP’s consistent electoral success over the past years. He highlighted the widespread public endorsement of AAP’s policies through various electoral victories, underscoring the people’s trust in the state government’s governance.
