Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that he has provided his explanation to Akal Takht’s acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj regarding alleged remarks on the Sikh code of conduct and an objectionable video. Mann expressed his commitment to abide by the decision made by the Sikh clergy after the meeting with Gargaj and Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Baba Tek Singh Dhanaula.
During the meeting, CM Mann acknowledged that he should refrain from commenting on Sikh religious matters and assured not to make such statements in the future. The Sikh Rehat Maryada book was handed to him by the Jathedar of the highest temporal seat of Sikhs. The explanation provided by Mann on the charges of religious misconduct will be discussed in the upcoming meeting of the five Sikh high priests.
Giani Gargaj mentioned that while the Akal Takht cannot pronounce punishment for an apostate Sikh, it can direct the Sikh community. He also stated that a forensic examination of the viral video allegedly showing the CM will be conducted. Earlier, Gargaj had criticized Mann for his actions towards images of Sikh Gurus and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, describing them as disrespectful and reflecting an abuse of power.
