Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been criticized by BJP state working President Ashwani Sharma for not fulfilling the mandatory 100 days of employment under MGNREGA for many people in the past four years. Sharma expressed concern that this failure has deprived the weaker and deprived sections of society of their right to employment, impacting their dignity and self-respect. During a recent press conference, Sharma highlighted the issue of disrupted time in the special Assembly session, where the ruling party members repeatedly interrupted discussions.
Sharma raised questions regarding the utilization of funds allocated by the central government for providing 100 days of employment to workers in Punjab. He also pointed out the absence of mandatory social audits under MGNREGA in numerous gram panchayats in recent years, questioning potential corruption cover-ups. Additionally, Sharma criticized the lack of action taken in numerous corruption cases identified by the Special Audit Unit, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice.
Furthermore, Sharma highlighted allegations of corruption involving Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, MPs, and local leaders in MGNREGA operations. Despite consistent accusations from MGNREGA workers and their organizations, Sharma noted the government’s and Chief Minister’s inaction in addressing these concerns, suggesting a failure to protect the livelihoods of the underprivileged through corrupt practices.
