Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed disapproval towards the BJP-led Central government for the recent surge in fuel prices, stating that the burden falls on common citizens right after elections while those in power preach about cutting expenses. He highlighted the challenges faced by people nationwide due to inflation, escalating transport expenses, and growing household costs, emphasizing that instead of easing the situation, the government is urging individuals to curtail personal spending.
Mann criticized the Prime Minister for advocating savings to the public while embarking on foreign trips, questioning the government’s stance on advising citizens to limit unnecessary expenditures. He pointed out the disparity between the Prime Minister’s overseas travels and the suggested austerity measures for the public, suggesting that if people are expected to work from home, why can’t the Prime Minister do the same.
The Chief Minister underscored the global impact of war and economic instability, noting that unlike other countries, PM Modi’s approach of emphasizing savings to the citizens is unique. Mann remarked on the government’s lack of concrete actions to alleviate inflation and reduce financial strain on households, farmers, and small businesses, highlighting the need for practical measures over symbolic gestures and lectures.
Mann took a dig at the government, stating that while the Prime Minister advised saving money, he refrained from urging the public to engage in symbolic acts like clapping and banging plates. He emphasized the necessity for governments to provide relief to citizens during times of global turmoil, contrasting the Central government’s approach of burdening the public with increased prices and moralizing lectures on expenditure.
