Punjab FC has named Greek coach Pavlos Dermitzakis as their new head coach for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Dermitzakis, aged 57, comes to the Shers from Panionios F.C. in the Greek Super League 2, signing a two-year contract. With a coaching career spanning over two decades in Greek football, including the top division, he brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Dermitzakis, a seasoned manager, started his coaching journey with Ergotelis in the fourth tier of Greek football during the 2002-03 season. He later moved to Atsalenios, guiding them to promotion to the third division and maintaining an unbeaten home record for two seasons. His coaching stints also include successful spells at various Greek clubs like GS Diagoras 1905, Panthrakikos, PAOK, Asteras Tripolis, and OFI Crete.
Having managed Veria 1960 in the second division, Dermitzakis led the team to consecutive North group titles in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. His tenure at Panserraikos FC saw the club’s return to the Greek Super League after a 12-year absence in 2022. Before transitioning to coaching, he enjoyed a prolific 15-year playing career as a forward in Greece, accumulating over 500 professional appearances and 200 goals.
Expressing his excitement about joining Punjab FC, Dermitzakis praised the club’s long-term vision and commitment to nurturing young Indian talent while aiming for success at the highest level. He believes his experience in team building and player development aligns well with the club’s objectives, emphasizing his readiness to commence work with the team.
