Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema expressed disappointment over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the state, stating that instead of addressing the release of Punjab’s pending financial dues, Modi focused on political matters. Cheema highlighted that the public had anticipated the clearance of the state’s dues during the visit, but Modi remained silent on the issue while engaging in political discourse.
Cheema emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab had successfully fulfilled all five promises made to the people within a short period, contrasting it with the previous BJP-Akali government’s tenure, which he accused of causing harm to the state over a decade. He pointed out that the former government allowed drug-related issues and disrespected Guru Granth Sahib, while the current Bhagwant Mann-led administration introduced measures to combat drug abuse and safeguard the sanctity of the holy scripture.
During a media address, Minister Cheema criticized Modi for not addressing Punjab’s pending dues during his visit, accusing the Prime Minister of focusing on political rhetoric instead. Cheema also criticized the BJP for alleged financial improprieties related to donations at religious sites, claiming that funds collected for the Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh had been misused.
Cheema praised the current Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, as a common man who has brought positive change to the state after many years. He highlighted that the AAP government, under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, had fulfilled all promises made to the people within a record time frame, marking a significant achievement in the state’s political history.
