Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer acknowledged that their loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL match was due to a poor performance during the power-play. Despite a valiant effort later in the innings, the early wickets left them struggling at 19/3 while chasing a challenging target of 223.
Iyer mentioned that Bengaluru’s strong start and aggressive batting post power-play set the tone for the match. Punjab Kings managed to reach 199/8 with notable contributions from Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis, but the required run rate proved too demanding after the initial setbacks.
Reflecting on the match, Iyer highlighted the absence of solid starts from their key openers, Arya and Prabhsimran, who had been consistent performers earlier in the season. He expressed disappointment but praised the efforts of Shashank, Stoinis, and other middle-order batsmen.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood’s effective bowling for RCB further hindered Punjab Kings’ chances of recovery. The defeat confirmed RCB as the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, securing 18 points from 13 matches.
Despite the loss, Shreyas remained positive about Punjab Kings’ future prospects and emphasized maintaining a strong mindset for their upcoming game against Lucknow Super Giants. He expressed confidence in bouncing back and staying optimistic regardless of the results.
With this defeat, PBKS’ path to qualification appears challenging, needing a win against LSG in their final match and favorable outcomes from other teams to reach a maximum of 15 points.
