Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after a search at his official residence in an alleged money laundering case. State BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar criticized the AAP government for protecting corruption and individuals linked to land-related scams.
Jakhar emphasized that the ED’s actions were not targeting private individuals but those involved in fraudulent acquisition of farmers’ land. Investigations focus on cases where land acquired cheaply from farmers was later exploited for illegal real estate gains.
The BJP leader highlighted concerns about the misuse of Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions to unlawfully convert agricultural land. Following ED raids in Chandigarh and other locations, Minister Arora was arrested and taken to New Delhi for a registered money laundering case.
Referring to specific cases, Jakhar alleged irregularities involving Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora and Sanjeev Arora. He accused them of misusing land for profits through fraudulent approvals. The diversion of industrial land for residential purposes was also criticized.
Jakhar pointed out that land acquired for industrial development at low prices should have benefited farmers if not utilized for the intended purpose. He criticized the Punjab government for allegedly defending corruption instead of taking action against it.
