Punjab Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Harpal Singh Cheema reaffirmed the party’s dedication to safeguarding the Constitution amidst recent political upheaval. This statement follows the departure of seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs who joined the BJP, sparking controversy. Among these MPs were Raghav Chadha, Swati Maliwal, Ashok Mittal, and others. Cheema, in response, criticized the BJP for the defection of the MPs, accusing the party of undermining democratic principles.
Cheema expressed concerns over the BJP’s alleged manipulation of the democratic process, particularly in the context of recent Rajya Sabha elections. He accused the BJP of engaging in cross-voting tactics to secure victories in states like Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Cheema highlighted the BJP’s strategies during the Bihar Assembly polls, citing the party’s alliance with former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to garner support.
The Punjab Minister emphasized the AAP’s unwavering commitment to defending the Constitution and combating what he perceives as threats to democracy. He warned of the consequences for those who choose to leave the party, citing past instances where former AAP members faced electoral defeats. Cheema also stood in solidarity with AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal amidst allegations made against him, dismissing them as attempts to tarnish the party’s image.
