Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sahney expressed concern over recent discussions surrounding the film “Satluj,” emphasizing the importance of preserving Punjab’s hard-earned peace. He highlighted that the movie depicts a specific part of Punjab’s history involving disappearances, fake encounters, and illegal cremations, urging that such films should be seen as artistic interpretations without reopening old wounds. Sahney noted the legal actions taken by individuals like Jaswant Singh Khalra and institutions like the Supreme Court and NHRC regarding these issues.
The MP clarified that the film “Satluj,” featuring Diljit Dosanjh, focuses on a particular aspect of Punjab’s history related to human rights violations, distinct from a comprehensive portrayal of terrorism and militancy in the region. He emphasized that neither the film nor its creators aim to justify terrorism or downplay the suffering caused by past conflicts. Sahney suggested that instead of prolonging debates, the focus should be on learning from history to promote justice and social harmony in Punjab for a peaceful future.
