Punjab’s Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for allegedly trying to conceal a controversial video incident using a fake forensic report. Bajwa stated that the government’s attempt to manipulate evidence rather than support an impartial investigation has damaged its credibility. He emphasized that the situation has evolved into more than just sacrilege accusations, now involving claims of obstructing justice and deceiving the people of Punjab.
Bajwa called for Mann’s resignation, asserting that the Chief Minister has lost moral authority by allegedly offending Sikh sentiments globally. He urged for a judicial inquiry led by a sitting or retired High Court judge to uncover the truth and expose all individuals linked to the alleged cover-up. Referring to related events in Haryana, Bajwa highlighted the arrest of two individuals by Gurugram Police following allegations that Punjab Police officers offered money for a false forensic report.
The scandal has expanded beyond the initial video, focusing on the purported efforts to tamper with evidence and misuse government resources to shield the Chief Minister. Bajwa stressed that any Punjab Police officer found pressuring individuals or influencing forensic results must face legal consequences. He emphasized that no uniform should serve as a shield for misconduct and those misusing their positions to protect political figures should be prosecuted according to the law.
