Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for the conduct of its Cabinet ministers during the Governor’s address. Bajwa highlighted that two Cabinet Ministers, Harpal Cheema and Aman Arora, left the Assembly to hold a sudden press conference, which he described as unprecedented in Punjab’s legislative history. This move was seen as an attempt to divert attention and prevent Congress leaders from sharing their views with the media after boycotting the address.
Bajwa emphasized that the actions of the AAP government’s ministers reflected confusion and an inability to defend their record. He questioned the urgency that led to the ministers leaving the Assembly during the Governor’s address, suggesting it showed nervousness. The Congress party’s boycott of the address was a protest against what they viewed as the government’s failures and unmet promises.
The Opposition leader pointed out that the AAP ministers’ behavior aligned with the Congress’s stance, further indicating a lack of confidence in defending the government’s performance. Bajwa criticized the AAP government for failing to address the concerns raised by the Congress regarding governance failures and unfulfilled commitments. He highlighted the government’s unfulfilled promises since coming to power in 2022, stating that issues like law and order, unemployment, and governance failures remain unaddressed.
Bajwa also expressed concern over a protest staged by AAP minister Harbhajan Singh ETO near the Vidhan Sabha complex, calling it deeply disturbing and a breach of security. He urged for an inquiry into the incident to determine accountability for compromising the Assembly’s security.
