In Punjab, the police conducted an intelligence-led operation resulting in the apprehension of two individuals, one of whom is a minor, and the seizure of five country-made 7.65 mm pistols. The arrested persons are Ajay Kumar from Mehrajwala village in Jalandhar and a 17-year-old youth.
According to State Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, investigations suggest that the accused were following instructions from overseas handlers based in the Philippines and the UAE. It has been disclosed that the weapons were illegally obtained from Madhya Pradesh and distributed to criminal groups.
The recovered firearms were intended for use in shooting incidents and extortion activities within the region, as stated by DGP Yadav. Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora shared that Ajay Kumar was first apprehended with one pistol, leading to the subsequent arrest of his juvenile accomplice with four additional pistols.
Further inquiries have revealed that the accused purchased the weapons from an unidentified source in Madhya Pradesh for Rs 87,000. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full extent of the network involved in these illicit activities.
