Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network by apprehending six individuals, including a juvenile, in Amritsar. The seized weapons comprised five sophisticated pistols and a sharp-edged weapon, including firearms like a .30 Bore, a 9MM Glock, and others, along with 34 cartridges. Investigations revealed that the accused were communicating with arms smugglers in Pakistan through social media and receiving weapon shipments via drones.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the arrested individuals were involved in coordinating the distribution of arms consignments as per instructions from their handlers. Further probe is ongoing to uncover the network’s connections and disrupt its operations. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that the police teams acted swiftly during patrols, leading to the arrest of the initial suspects and subsequent seizure of illegal weapons.
The interrogation of the arrested individuals unveiled the chain of supply, resulting in the apprehension of additional suspects involved in the arms smuggling operation. The police arrested the weapon suppliers, identified as Onkar Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Jashandeep, leading to the recovery of four more pistols. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Maqboolpura Police Station in Amritsar.
