In a significant operation against narco-terror networks, Punjab Police’s State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar unit, under the Counter Intelligence wing, has dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling module. The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of 64.62 kg of heroin. The arrested suspects, identified as Sarwan Singh and Shamsher Singh, were apprehended in Amritsar.
The police not only confiscated a substantial amount of heroin but also seized the suspects’ vehicle, which was being used for smuggling narcotics. Preliminary investigations suggest connections between this smuggling module and Pakistan-based smugglers, as well as a handler based in Portugal. DGP Yadav highlighted the association of this trafficking ring with a notorious Pakistan-based smuggler named Moosa, previously linked to a 532-kg heroin recovery case.
Further probes are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network involved in this case. A reliable tip-off led to the interception of Sarwan Singh and Shamsher Singh, who were transporting a heroin consignment received via drone from across the border. The duo was intercepted near the Mahal bypass in Amritsar by the Amritsar unit team, resulting in the recovery of the heroin.
The arrested individuals had been promised substantial rewards by their handlers for their illicit activities. As the investigation progresses, more arrests and seizures are anticipated. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam in Amritsar, signaling a crackdown on drug-related crimes.
