Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) in Amritsar uncovered an illegal arms and explosives smuggling operation, leading to the arrest of three alleged Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) members. The authorities seized six hand grenades and 12 sophisticated pistols from the suspects. The arrested individuals, identified as Chintu, Jobanpreet Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, were residents of Kakkar village in Amritsar.
The recovered weapons included eight .30 bore pistols, four 9 mm pistols, and nine cartridges. It was revealed that the accused were acting under the instructions of a foreign-based smuggler supported by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and foreign-based BKI members. The group was allegedly planning activities to disrupt public peace in various cities within the border state.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the suspects had recently received a significant consignment of explosives, arms, and ammunition from the Ajnala area. They were intercepted by the police while en route to deliver the items to their associates near the underpass on the Bharatmala bypass highway in Amritsar. The police seized six hand grenades and 12 pistols during the interception.
The case is currently under investigation from various angles to establish connections and dismantle the entire network. A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
