The Punjab Police have successfully dismantled two espionage modules supported by the ISI, employing advanced China-made CCTV cameras to relay live feeds of critical military sites to handlers in Pakistan. In a significant breakthrough, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar apprehended one operative with a Chinese CCTV camera and a solar-powered USB device equipped with 4G connectivity. Simultaneously, Kapurthala Police, in collaboration with a central agency, arrested two individuals connected to foreign handlers and seized four mobile phones. The modules strategically placed SIM-based and solar-operated CCTV cameras at key locations to surveil defense-related establishments and streamed the footage through mobile apps.
One of the arrested individuals in the Counter Intelligence operation is Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha, hailing from Sahanke village in Ferozepur. The second operation led by Kapurthala Police resulted in the capture of Sona from Dona Mattar and Sandeep Singh alias Sonu from Chhanga Khurd, both in Ferozepur. The Chinese cameras utilized by the modules are adept at off-grid surveillance due to their 4G connectivity and solar-powered functionality, eliminating the necessity for traditional wiring. The investigations unveiled that the espionage activities extended to monitoring military movements near the Army Cantonment, with a Pakistan-based handler named Fauji providing financial support for camera installations.
Assistant Inspector General (Counter Intelligence) Simratpal Singh Dhindsa disclosed that following Sukhwinder Singh’s arrest, a CCTV camera, solar plate, and SIM card were confiscated. Senior Superintendent of Police (Kapurthala) Gaurav Toora shared that the Kapurthala module aimed at surveilling the Army Cantonment, with the accused receiving funds from the handler for camera deployment. Additionally, Sandeep Singh was implicated in drug trafficking, receiving payment for distributing heroin delivered via drones by the same Pakistani handler.
