Acting on specific intelligence, Punjab Police’s Counterintelligence wing dismantled a narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of 12 kg of heroin. The operation took place near a toll plaza on the Amritsar–Chabal road in Tarn Taran district, where the suspects were apprehended.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the arrested persons were linked to a Pakistan-based smuggler, involved in the receipt and distribution of narcotics as per his instructions. Authorities believe these individuals were part of a larger network facilitating the illegal heroin supply chain across different regions.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further inquiries are ongoing to uncover the complete network, including suppliers, handlers, and potential recipients of the narcotics.
Senior officials are intensifying efforts to identify and dismantle the entire smuggling network, focusing on financial transactions, logistical support, and potential involvement of cross-border and local collaborators. Punjab Police remains committed to eradicating drugs from the state, vowing to sustain such operations to safeguard citizens’ well-being.
The crackdown on the narcotics smuggling module comes amidst heightened security measures along vulnerable routes and improved coordination among enforcement agencies to curb the influx of drugs into Punjab.
