Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), uncovered 3.925 kg of heroin from agricultural fields at the Border Outpost (BOP) in Kaalian, Tarn Taran. The recovery also included a DJI Matrice drone, indicating the use of advanced technology by Pakistan-based smugglers for cross-border smuggling attempts. Authorities are actively investigating to identify the smuggling network’s handlers, track supply routes, and dismantle the entire operation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba disclosed that the Punjab government’s ‘Baaz Akh’ anti-drone system detected drone activity in the Kaalian region. Following this detection, law enforcement promptly alerted the BSF and conducted a joint operation, resulting in the interception of the drone carrying the heroin consignment, which was subsequently retrieved from the fields. Ongoing investigations aim to determine the intended recipient of the seized heroin.
In response, a case has been filed under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 26, and 29 of the ‘Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam’ in Valtoha, Tarn Taran. The police are actively engaged in ‘Gangstran Te Vaar,’ a campaign against gangsters and organized crime. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav urged the public, especially the youth, to distance themselves from criminal activities and negative influences, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards crime in Punjab. He encouraged individuals to utilize the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946 to confidentially report any criminal or gang-related activities, assuring anonymity for informants and highlighting the importance of public cooperation in eradicating anti-social elements from society.
