Punjab Police made a significant breakthrough by foiling a terror conspiracy and apprehending two associates of an overseas-based terror operative. The police seized a fully assembled RDX-based Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing around 2.5 kg from the suspects, identified as Mani Singh and Abhishek Kumar from Amritsar.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the recovered IED was prepared for immediate use. This operation prevented a dangerous scheme targeting critical public infrastructure in Mohali, averting a severe threat to public safety and security. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire terror network, including handlers and associates involved in the plot.
Inspector General of Police (Counter Intelligence) Ashish Choudhary disclosed that the arrests were made based on credible intelligence inputs. The suspects, who had traveled from Amritsar to Mohali, were apprehended near a park opposite YPS Chowk in Mohali. A bomb disposal squad neutralized the IED, emphasizing the grave risk it posed.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Mani Singh had established contact with a foreign-based handler through social media, subsequently involving his brother-in-law Abhishek Kumar. The foreign handler offered financial aid in exchange for specific tasks, to which both individuals agreed due to financial constraints. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law in Mohali.
