Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar resigned from his position following a controversy surrounding the suicide of a senior official from the Punjab Warehousing Corporation. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann requested Bhullar’s resignation in light of the allegations and has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the official’s death.
The deceased official, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, implicated Minister Bhullar in his suicide. Chief Minister Mann has directed the Chief Secretary to investigate the matter thoroughly. Acknowledging Randhawa’s video statement, Chief Minister Mann emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of negligence.
In response to the incident, Akali Dal senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia expressed concerns over the alleged torture linked to Minister Bhullar. Randhawa, who tragically took his own life in Amritsar, accused Bhullar of pressuring him to accept a bribe and influencing tender awards. Majithia raised accountability questions not only for Bhullar but also for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party leadership.
Majithia urged for the preservation of Randhawa’s phone as potential evidence and called for a transparent investigation, including the possibility of a CBI probe, to ensure justice for the victim.
