PV Sindhu showcased a dominant performance at the Japan Open Super 750 by defeating world No. 5 Han Yue of China in straight games. In just 35 minutes, Sindhu secured her spot in the women’s singles quarterfinals with a 21-16, 21-14 victory, extending her winning record against Han Yue to 8-1.
This win marked one of Sindhu’s strongest showings this season, as she overcame an initial challenge to take control of the match against the fifth seed. Despite a closely contested start, Sindhu’s precise shot placement and aggressive play allowed her to pull ahead and claim the first game 21-16.
Entering the second game with determination, Sindhu quickly established an 8-0 lead with eight consecutive points, thwarting any hopes of a Chinese comeback. Despite Han Yue’s efforts to narrow the gap, Sindhu maintained her composure, securing a comprehensive 21-14 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.
Sindhu will now face Japan’s former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in the next round, following Okuhara’s advancement after the withdrawal of top seed An Se-young. With this win, Sindhu remains India’s sole contender in the tournament, as the mixed doubles campaign concluded earlier in the day.
