PV Sindhu, a prominent figure in badminton history, has been elected as the chair of the BWF Athletes’ Commission, granting her a full voting position on the Badminton World Federation Council. Since 2017, Sindhu has been an active member of the BWF Athletes’ Commission and served as a BWF Integrity Ambassador starting in 2020.
Following the completion of the voting process, Sindhu officially joined the BWF Council at the close of 2025. She made her debut appearance at the BWF Annual General Meeting in Horsens, signifying the commencement of her term within the sport’s highest governing body.
As a council member, the two-time Olympic medalist will engage in discussions and decisions that influence the future of badminton, ensuring that the perspectives and experiences of elite athletes are considered in global badminton leadership.
Sindhu’s presence on the BWF Council is a significant milestone, as it is uncommon for an active elite athlete to hold a voting position within badminton’s global governance structure. Her role will guarantee that players’ voices, experiences, and priorities are well-represented at the highest levels of decision-making.
