Former World Champion PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are thrilled about the upcoming India Open 2026. The tournament holds special significance this year as it serves as a precursor to the BWF World Badminton Championships to be held at the same venue in August. The India Open 2026, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, is scheduled from January 13-18, 2026.

The India Open 2026 will act as a dress rehearsal for the prestigious BWF World Championships 2026. The badminton action will shift to a larger multi-purpose hall in the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, promising fans an enhanced viewing experience. Noteworthy badminton stars like Shi Yu Qi, An Se Young, and Christo Popov are set to participate, with a total of 256 players from 20 countries competing over five days.

PV Sindhu expressed her delight at playing in the India Open, emphasizing the support from fans and the federation. She is eager to give her best performance and hopes for positive results. Chirag and Satwik also lauded the fans’ support and expressed confidence in their performance despite the increased stadium capacity.

The India Open 2026, with a prize pool of USD 950,000, offers players a chance to earn crucial ranking points early in the year for BWF World Championships qualification. BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra highlighted the tournament’s importance as a significant stop on the BWF World Tour. The event will help players acclimatize to the new venue’s playing conditions ahead of the BWF World Championships 2026.
