Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, recently made his first visit to Punjab after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in April. He participated in a crucial BJP gathering in Ludhiana, led by party National President Nitin Nabin, to strategize for the 2027 Assembly elections.
During the meeting, Chadha, accompanied by another MP, Rajinder Gupta, who also switched from AAP to BJP, is speculated to be considered for a significant organizational role in the upcoming polls. BJP chief Navin emphasized the importance of grassroots work for the upcoming elections and hinted at assigning crucial electoral responsibilities to the new MPs.
Apart from Chadha and Gupta, five other AAP Rajya Sabha members, including Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Swati Maliwal, and Vikramjit Sahney, joined the BJP in April. With the exception of Swati Maliwal, all six MPs represent Punjab in the Upper House.
Chadha, after leaving AAP, expressed his reasons on social media, citing the party’s negative environment. He believes that joining the BJP will enable him to advocate for his causes more effectively. Notably, since the majority of AAP Rajya Sabha MPs switched parties together, they avoided disqualification under the anti-defection law.
