Amid the ongoing Parliament stalemate regarding former Army chief General M.M. Naravane’s unpublished memoirs, Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism towards the government and Penguin, the book’s publisher. Gandhi alleges that the memoirs are already in the public domain and accuses the BJP of attempting to suppress them to avoid the disclosure of what he calls the “inconvenient truth.”
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the book was accessible on Amazon, a statement that Penguin has refuted. He also presented a 2023 post by a former Army chief, encouraging people to read the memoirs detailing the events of the Galwan clashes in 2020.
Gandhi, addressing the media after the House adjournment, highlighted a tweet from 2023 by Naravane, questioning the credibility of either Penguin or the former Army chief. The Lok Sabha has been witnessing disruptions for over a week due to the controversy surrounding General Naravane’s book, with the opposition persistent on discussing its contents and the government resolute in preventing it.
Expressing solidarity with the former Army Chief, Rahul Gandhi challenged the government’s stance and emphasized the book’s content, suggesting it contains revelations that could be embarrassing for the government. He accused the government of obstructing the opposition from revealing the truth about the Galwan stand-off in the House.
Responding to the escalating dispute, Penguin clarified that the book “Four Stars of Destiny,” authored by General Manoj Mukund Naravane, has not been published in any format, digitally or in print. The publishing house emphasized that they hold the exclusive rights to the book and have not released it for public access.
