Senior MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited Telangana for a joint meeting of the Political Affairs Committees of the Congress in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He was welcomed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other party leaders upon his arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Rahul Gandhi then proceeded to Vikarabad for the meeting at SAP Arts and Science College.
After the Political Affairs Committee meeting, Rahul Gandhi headed to Haritha resort at Anantagiri Hills for a training camp for newly-appointed District Congress Committee presidents of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The training program aimed to enhance the party’s grassroots level strength and effectiveness. Rahul Gandhi is expected to provide guidance on strengthening the organization during the valedictory session.
Discussions between Rahul Gandhi and top leaders are likely to cover important party matters. The upcoming elections for two Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana may also be on the agenda. The state Congress leadership is preparing a list of potential candidates for the Rajya Sabha tickets, with several senior leaders vying for the opportunity.
March 5 marks the deadline for nominations for the elections scheduled for March 16. The current members of the seats, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and K.R. Suresh Reddy, are set to conclude their terms on April 9, necessitating the elections. With a strong position in the Assembly and support from allies, the Congress is well-placed to secure both seats. The party is reportedly considering renominating Singhvi for another term.
