Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed strong condemnation over the killing of retired Brigadier V.K. Joshi in Dehradun, citing it as a sign of law and order breakdown in Uttarakhand.
Gandhi, in a social media post, described the incident as brutal and deeply concerning, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the state. He emphasized that even those who served the nation at its borders are now facing threats in their own cities.
The opposition leader criticized the ruling BJP, alleging that criminals feel more secure than law-abiding citizens under the current government. He lamented the shift in Uttarakhand from a peaceful to an increasingly violent and insecure environment due to what he termed as ineffective leadership.
The fatal incident involving Brigadier V.K. Joshi occurred during a gunfire exchange following a dispute between occupants of two vehicles in the Rajpur area. Joshi, who was on a morning walk, sustained critical injuries and later passed away during treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, securing the area and deploying multiple teams to track down the perpetrators. The incident has raised concerns among residents and sparked calls for enhanced safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
