Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP and the central government during a speech in Raebareli. He accused the RSS and BJP of trying to weaken the Constitution’s spirit and the architect’s ideals. Gandhi expressed concerns about the current situation in India, likening it to pre-Independence times where common people’s land, rights, and entitlements were under threat.
Gandhi highlighted issues such as land seizures, rights restrictions, and the diversion of public welfare funds to big industrialists. He reassured party workers, urging them not to fear and emphasizing Congress’s support for laborers and the poor. Gandhi pledged to resist what he termed as “anti-people policies” of the government.
Discussing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Gandhi praised the scheme’s empowerment of panchayats and ensuring minimum wages for the poor under the Congress government. He criticized the current government for centralizing power, dismantling safety nets, and disrespecting Gandhiji by renaming schemes without real benefits. Gandhi stressed the importance of protecting laborers’ rights and preserving MGNREGA across the country.
During his visit, Gandhi led the ‘Save MGNREGA Campaign’ in Raebareli, interacting with MGNREGA workers in Umran village. He emphasized the scheme’s significance as a source of pride and employment rights for poor laborers. Gandhi inaugurated development projects and a cricket tournament, engaging with local talent and discussing community issues.
