Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed worries about women’s safety and the effectiveness of One Stop Centres (OSCs). He criticized the government, stating that many distressed women struggle to access timely support. Gandhi questioned the lack of assistance for women escaping violence and highlighted issues like locked centers, staff shortages, and unaddressed complaints.
Gandhi emphasized the importance of safety as a fundamental government responsibility. He criticized the government’s response in Parliament, where everything was deemed ‘satisfactory’ despite ongoing problems in OSCs. The leader pointed out that a significant portion of allocated funds for Women and Child Development Ministry is not being utilized for OSCs, raising concerns about the prioritization of women’s safety.
In his remarks, Gandhi underscored that safety should not be viewed as merely a scheme but as a core duty of the government. He criticized the government’s dismissal of reported issues in OSCs, suggesting a lack of responsiveness. Gandhi’s concerns stem from his inquiry in the Lok Sabha regarding the functionality of OSCs nationwide, focusing on operational deficiencies, staff shortages, and inadequate support for women in distress.
