Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by other Opposition MPs, met with Speaker Om Birla to push for a thorough debate in Parliament regarding the NEET-UG paper leak and the recent violent Jantar Mantar protest. Gandhi emphasized the need for Parliament to address the mistreatment of students and the government’s lack of accountability in handling the examination crisis.

Gandhi highlighted the clashes that occurred during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, condemning the violence against students who were merely seeking answers about their future. He questioned the purpose of Parliament if it cannot discuss issues crucial to India’s youth. The Opposition vowed to ensure that the students’ concerns are heard both on the streets and within the parliamentary chambers.

Despite efforts to conduct proceedings smoothly, the Lok Sabha faced its second adjournment of the day due to continuous disruptions by Opposition members during the ongoing Monsoon Session. The House was adjourned as Opposition members persisted in slogans and protests, disregarding appeals to maintain decorum.

Speaker Om Birla, presiding over the House, expressed disappointment at the disruptions and urged members to cooperate in allowing the House to function effectively. However, the Opposition’s protests persisted, resulting in further interruptions and ultimately leading to the second adjournment of the Lok Sabha on that day.

Leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other prominent figures, convened to strategize for the day’s parliamentary proceedings before the disruptions unfolded. The disruptions mirrored the chaotic scenes from the previous day of the Monsoon Session, where repeated adjournments marred the functioning of both Houses of Parliament.
