A potentially catastrophic rail incident was averted on Thursday morning near Jakhapura in Odisha’s Jajpur district when the MGR Chennai Central–New Jalpaiguri Express derailed. Fortunately, the train was moving slowly at the time, resulting in no significant damage or injuries to passengers. The East Coast Railway confirmed that only one AC coach and two General coaches derailed within the yard limits.
Passenger train services were not disrupted by the minor derailment, and railway officials promptly responded by accommodating affected passengers in other available coaches. Emergency services, including the Accident Relief Train and Medical Equipment, were dispatched immediately to the scene to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Additional coaches will be added to the train as needed for passenger convenience.
The affected train has been cleared from the derailment site, and normal train operations have resumed in both directions. Despite the scare experienced by passengers due to the derailment, railway authorities reassured them that there was no significant damage or danger involved. Senior railway officials are overseeing the restoration efforts and safety protocols to prevent any further incidents.
