Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar recently conducted a thorough inspection of the Tarakeswar-Seoraphuli section of Eastern Railway (ER) to enhance passenger amenities. The inspection included visits to Tarakeswar and Seoraphuli stations, focusing on strategies to improve passenger services.
The extension of this section up to Bankura is in progress, with a small portion delayed due to legal issues. Once completed, the project will offer a shorter route from Howrah to Bankura and Purulia in the southern districts. Kumar, along with senior officials from Railway Board, ER, and South Eastern Railway (SER), aimed to strengthen railway infrastructure and promote socio-economic development in West Bengal.
During the visit, Kumar reviewed passenger management arrangements and operational aspects to ensure smooth train operations and enhance passenger convenience. Detailed discussions were held with railway officials on enhancing service quality and operational efficiency. Additionally, a coordination meeting was chaired by Kumar at Tarakeswar with the District Magistrate of Hooghly and senior officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of West Bengal, to expedite key infrastructure projects.
Emphasizing the importance of completing infrastructure projects within set timelines, Kumar highlighted their role in improving connectivity, economic growth, and passenger amenities. He also conducted a window-trailing inspection from Tarakeswar to Howrah, examining track alignment, overhead equipment, signalling installations, and overall cleanliness of railway premises. Kumar issued directives to enhance passenger amenities, traffic circulation, and station aesthetics, including suggestions for transparent roofing sheets on platform areas for natural light, optimized holding areas for crowd management, and improved connectivity between the station and the Metro network.
