A tragic incident unfolded in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, as an old railway building collapsed during scrap removal work, resulting in the death of one railway employee and severe injuries to another. The collapse occurred suddenly while a team was dismantling the structure, trapping workers under debris.
Local residents and colleagues swiftly initiated rescue efforts, using a JCB machine to clear the rubble and extricate the trapped individuals. Sadly, Master Craftsman Shashikant lost his life in the accident, while another employee, Virendra, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
Upon receiving the alert, senior police officials and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the scene. The Kotwali police have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the circumstances that led to the building’s collapse and whether safety protocols were followed during the scrap removal process.
Authorities are scrutinizing the safety measures taken before the commencement of work on the unstable structure, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the well-being of workers. A senior railway official highlighted the inherent risks associated with old railway structures and pledged to conduct comprehensive safety audits across similar buildings within the division.
The Railway Department and district administration have joined forces to probe the root cause of the collapse, with a commitment to hold accountable any parties found negligent. Efforts are underway to provide necessary medical care to the injured employee and extend support to the family of the deceased.
