Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently rode the Kolkata Metro from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to Noapara station, promoting public transport usage for fuel conservation as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive. During his journey, he engaged with passengers to gather feedback on their travel experiences and announced the induction of 60 new-generation rakes into the Kolkata Metro network over the next few years to enhance urban mobility.
Vaishnaw also commended the efforts of metro staff in maintaining cleanliness and interacted with them to address their concerns directly. He expressed appreciation for the contributions of individuals involved in expanding and operating the city’s metro network, assuring support for further network extensions to improve connectivity and commuter convenience in Kolkata.
Highlighting the ‘Fear Out, Trust In’ campaign of the BJP government in West Bengal, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to development initiatives. He met with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to discuss extending the metro link to Barrackpore, aiming to enhance daily commute for thousands of northern suburb residents traveling to Kolkata. Additionally, plans are underway to finalize the Garia-Airport link via Rajarhat, further expanding the metro network in the city.
