The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Central Railway has successfully rescued and reunited 584 vulnerable children and adults with their families. Additionally, they have saved 25 passengers from life-threatening accidents between January and April 2026. The RPF personnel not only ensure the security of railway assets but also play a crucial humanitarian role in safeguarding passenger safety across railway premises.
Under “Operation Nanhe Farishte,” a nationwide initiative focusing on rescuing and protecting vulnerable children found on railway premises, the RPF has rescued a total of 499 children in the past four months. These rescued children, comprising 331 boys and 168 girls, include runaways, missing minors, destitute children, and those in need of immediate care and protection. The rescued children have been either reunited with their families or provided further care by Child Welfare Committees and NGOs.
In another initiative named “Operation Dignity,” the RPF has rescued 85 vulnerable adults who were in distress across railway premises during the same period. This operation has focused on identifying individuals in need of care, such as destitute, mentally unwell, or abandoned persons, and ensuring they receive timely assistance and rehabilitation support.
Moreover, under “Operation Jeevan Raksha,” RPF personnel have saved 25 passengers from fatal accidents while boarding or alighting from moving trains. This includes 20 male passengers and five female passengers. The swift response and alertness of RPF staff deployed at railway stations have been crucial in preventing untoward incidents and ensuring passenger safety.
Central Railway officials emphasize that the RPF has transcended its role as a mere security force and continues to serve as a compassionate arm of Indian Railways through various public service initiatives. The dedication and humanitarian efforts of RPF personnel in rescuing children, aiding vulnerable adults, and saving lives underscore their unwavering commitment to passenger safety and public welfare.
Passengers are urged not to board or alight from moving trains and to remain vigilant about their belongings while traveling. In case of encountering lost, distressed, destitute, or mentally unwell individuals on railway premises, passengers are advised to immediately inform the RPF or railway staff. Railway authorities recommend using the Railway Helpline number 139 for assistance in such situations.
