Rain and thunderstorms have provided relief from the intense heat in Delhi-NCR, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting further wet and windy weather for Friday. The region has experienced pleasant and comfortable weather since morning. Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad are likely to see cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds due to ongoing pre-monsoon activity in northern India.
The recent heavy showers in parts of Delhi were accompanied by dust storms and gusty winds in neighboring NCR cities, impacting visibility and traffic movement. The IMD anticipates the continuation of rain and thunderstorm activity in Delhi-NCR until May 31. Temperatures are expected to decrease by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius after May 29, offering relief from the severe heatwave conditions experienced over the past week.
Following days of scorching heat, North India saw thunderstorms, dust storms, hail, and heavy rain on Thursday evening, significantly lowering temperatures. Delhi-NCR witnessed strong winds, lightning, and intense showers after a prolonged heatwave, providing respite to residents. The sudden weather change followed a harsh heat spell with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in various cities, making living conditions challenging.
The weather system shifted eastward from Rajasthan and Haryana towards Delhi-NCR, with satellite images showing dense cloud formations extending towards Agra and nearby areas.
