The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief, Raj Thackeray, expressed deep concern over the revelations in the Ashok Kharat case, condemning the moral degradation in a state known for its historical legacy of seers and reformers. Thackeray highlighted the stark contrast between the state’s revered figures like Sant Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram, and Gadge Baba, and the current situation where individuals like Kharat allegedly operate with political support.
Thackeray pointed out a troubling paradox where several sitting MLAs possibly involved in the scandal were the same individuals who passed the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act in 2013. This shift signifies a decline in moral values, indicating a shift from rationalism to a pursuit of power. He also criticized the state’s political hierarchy for its power struggles, fear of displacement, and bureaucratic collusion.
While acknowledging the government’s role in uncovering the case, Thackeray raised concerns about the timing of the investigation, questioning potential intelligence failures under the government’s watch. He warned against using the case as a political tool to suppress rivals, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and accountability. Thackeray urged the press not to be manipulated in political games and called on citizens to choose representatives wisely to safeguard Maharashtra’s future.
