Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has issued directives to promote fuel conservation and minimize the use of government vehicles. In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, Chief Minister Sharma emphasized the importance of adopting measures such as car-pooling, metro rail usage, and wider adoption of electric vehicles. He specifically instructed officials and public representatives to exercise restraint in vehicle usage and ensure that convoys remain limited and economical.
Under the new instructions, the Chief Minister’s official convoy will now include a minimum number of vehicles. Chief Minister Sharma has stressed that unnecessary vehicles should not be included in the convoy under the guise of security arrangements. This directive applies to all state officials and public representatives, including top administrative officers like Chief Secretary V. Srinivas.
In line with efforts to encourage responsible fuel usage and administrative austerity, the Chief Minister urged officials and public representatives to avoid unnecessary travel and reduce excessive vehicle movement wherever possible. This move aligns with the broader national goal of conserving petrol and diesel resources, as highlighted by Prime Minister Modi’s recent appeal for reducing avoidable travel and promoting fuel conservation.
Amid global crude oil price hikes and energy challenges stemming from international conflicts, Prime Minister Modi has called for collective action to help India navigate economic uncertainties and supply chain disruptions. He emphasized the importance of making “nationally responsible” lifestyle choices and supporting local products to enhance self-reliance. The Prime Minister also urged citizens to refrain from non-essential gold purchases for a year to ease pressure on foreign exchange outflows and advised against foreign travel, advocating for domestic tourism and celebrations within the country.
