Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has instructed officials to escalate efforts against drug trafficking in the state. In a recent high-level meeting, he emphasized the need to disrupt organized drug networks, target illegal assets of drug mafias, and enhance surveillance along the borders. Sharma called for stringent action against those involved in the narcotics trade, stressing the importance of dismantling the financial roots of drug syndicates through property seizure and legal measures.
Sharma highlighted the necessity of invoking strict laws, such as the PITNDPS Act, against suspected members of drug cartels. He urged for the complete elimination of all networks engaged in drug trafficking, regardless of their size, and emphasized the importance of vigilance in border districts to combat narcotics smuggling effectively. The Chief Minister directed district officials to closely monitor suspicious activities and ensure prompt inter-departmental coordination for swift action.
Addressing the societal impact of substance abuse, Sharma underscored that drug addiction contributes to criminal activities and harms families and communities. He called for a comprehensive public awareness campaign against drug abuse, aiming to turn the vision of a “Drug-Free Rajasthan” into a collective movement involving various sectors of society. Sharma also stressed the involvement of women in this initiative to make it more impactful.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the Police, Administration, and Transport Department to conduct joint enforcement operations against illegally modified vehicles often used for unlawful purposes, including drug transportation. He emphasized the risks posed by such modifications to road safety and urged officials to take strict legal action against vehicles with unauthorized alterations, tinted films, or excessive window coverings. Sharma emphasized the need to intensify awareness and enforcement campaigns across the state to effectively curb such violations.
