Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and former CM Vasundhara Raje have called for a public apology from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over his comments about the Prime Minister, labeling them as disrespectful to democratic principles and the 1.4 billion citizens of India.
CM Sharma criticized Kharge for using derogatory language towards PM Modi, stating that such behavior reflects poorly on the Congress party’s political culture and mindset. He emphasized the need for decorum in political discourse and urged Kharge to apologize to the nation for his remarks.
Former CM Vasundhara Raje also condemned Kharge’s remarks, highlighting the decline in political propriety displayed by the Congress party. She demanded an immediate apology from Kharge, stating that his comments not only disrespect the Prime Minister but also undermine the trust of the nation’s people.
The controversy arose from Kharge’s comments during a press conference in Chennai, where he allegedly referred to PM Modi as a “terrorist.” Despite Kharge’s clarification that he meant “tax terrorism,” the BJP rejected his explanation, leading to further tensions between the parties.
Both Sharma and Raje criticized the Congress for resorting to personal attacks instead of engaging in constructive debates on crucial issues. They stressed the importance of maintaining respect for democratic values and called for a public apology from Kharge to rectify the situation.
The BJP is expected to escalate the matter, emphasizing PM Modi’s popularity in Rajasthan and asserting that such remarks not only offend public sentiment but also challenge democratic norms. The ongoing controversy adds to the political intensity in the state, amid discussions on significant projects like the Pachpadra refinery and water initiatives.
