The Rajasthan government is seeking public input before introducing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. A committee has posed 19 questions to the public through online platforms and consultations to shape the proposed legislation. The draft Bill, expected to be presented in the State Legislative Assembly’s next session, may include mandatory registration of live-in relationships.
The committee, led by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is holding consultations across Rajasthan. It is focusing on various aspects like marriage, divorce, inheritance, and property rights, with a specific emphasis on live-in relationships. Public feedback will play a crucial role in finalizing the draft UCC Bill.
Citizens are encouraged to participate by submitting their views online or attending public hearings. The consultation process aims to ensure that the proposed legislation aligns with public opinion before being tabled in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Public suggestions can be submitted through the state’s dedicated UCC portal until July 25.
The committee has organized public consultations at different divisional headquarters in Rajasthan. Scheduled hearings will take place in Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, and Bharatpur. The committee will gather and analyze public feedback to prepare the draft UCC Bill for government consideration.
