Rajasthan Health and Medical Education Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar led a high-level meeting at Swasthya Bhawan to address the deaths and health complications of women during childbirth at New Medical College Hospital, Kota. He stressed the need for a thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident to identify its root causes. Khimsar emphasized the importance of a detailed inquiry, including examining medicine quality, potential infections from medical equipment, and any treatment or supervision shortcomings.
The minister urged officials to expedite laboratory reports on medicine and equipment samples. He highlighted the significance of following treatment protocols and Standard Operating Procedures in hospitals, especially those handling a high volume of deliveries, to prevent such tragedies in the future. Khimsar assured that the state government was taking the matter seriously, with immediate actions already taken, such as deploying medical teams to Kota for assistance and assessment.
Khimsar revealed initial findings indicating treatment and supervision deficiencies, leading to the suspension of three doctors and four nursing staff members, along with the dismissal of a UTB doctor. Show-cause notices were issued to the superintendents of New Medical College Hospital and J.K. Lon Hospital. Further steps will be based on the final investigation report. The Health Minister plans to visit Kota for an on-site inspection, including visits to the hospitals and discussions with patients and families before a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials.
