The Rajasthan High Court rejected the pleas of Mohammad Sarwar Azmi and Shahbaz Ahmed, connected to the 2008 Jaipur serial blasts, seeking suspension of their life sentences. The court dismissed their requests for bail in the ‘live bomb’ case. The convicts had cited prolonged incarceration and delay in the appeal process as reasons for seeking relief.
The division bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Bhuvan Goyal turned down the applications of the convicts on Friday. The court’s decision came after the convicts, who had already spent a significant time in prison, requested bail while awaiting the appeal hearing. The court, however, refused to grant them relief.
The case dates back to May 13, 2008, when Jaipur was hit by eight serial blasts. A ninth live explosive device was discovered near a guest house in Chandpole Bazar, Jaipur, and was defused just in time. Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Saifur Rahman, and Mohammad Saif were sentenced to life imprisonment in the ‘live bomb’ case on April 4, 2025.
