The Rajasthan High Court has instructed the Jodhpur Central Jail to maintain special medical care for Asaram, the self-styled godman. This includes providing alkaline water, outside food, a separate bed, and bedding. Despite Asaram’s surrender, the court emphasized the importance of upholding his medical needs and human rights.
Asaram’s legal representatives highlighted that his health had not improved and that the jail had revoked several previously granted facilities. Medical records revealed his 85-year-old client suffers from various serious health issues, such as heart disease, diabetes, and kidney complications. The court ruled that the existing arrangement for food from private sources should continue.
The High Court also directed the continuation of services by two assistants for Asaram. However, it denied his request to choose his own assistants, leaving the selection to the jail authorities. Additionally, the court refused permanent permission for a private ambulance but mandated the availability of an appropriate ambulance during medical emergencies. Asaram will be allowed to meet with a private physician every 15 days inside the jail.
