In a significant development in Rajasthan’s efforts for a crime-free state, the state police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has apprehended Prakash Jani, also known as Pappu or Dakuda, a well-known liquor smuggler with a Rs 50,000 reward on his head.
The arrest took place in Sanchore, Jalore district, after a nearly two-kilometer chase. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the AGTF, under the guidance of Additional Director General (ADG) Dinesh MN, set up a strategic trap.
This operation is a major achievement in uncovering and dismantling organized liquor-smuggling networks not only in Rajasthan but also in neighboring states. AGTF Constables Sunil and Sumer Singh received credible information about the accused’s whereabouts, leading to the successful operation.
Prakash Jani, a key player in inter-state liquor and narcotics smuggling rings, had been evading the authorities since March 2022 when Sanchore police seized 405 cartons of illicit liquor, naming him as the prime suspect. He faces multiple serious charges under the NDPS Act and Excise Act in various locations.
The successful arrest was made possible by the coordinated efforts of law enforcement officers, including DSP Phoolchand, ASI Rakesh Jakhar, and Constable Maganaram, with technical support from Constable Surendra Kumar. The accused is now in custody at Sanchore Police Station for further investigation into the broader smuggling network.
