Rajasthan has achieved the second position in India under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for both the length of roads built and adherence to quality standards. Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Department Minister Diya Kumari praised the state for this accomplishment, highlighting Rajasthan’s advancement in road infrastructure development. The state’s robust road network is seen as a catalyst for economic progress and growth, creating new opportunities across Rajasthan.
Over the last 25 years, Rajasthan has been actively involved in constructing, widening, and strengthening rural roads as part of the PMGSY initiative. In Phase I of PMGSY in Rajasthan, a total of 49,730 km of roads were constructed, linking 15,983 habitations with all-weather paved roads. Moreover, 14,043 km of roads were widened and strengthened, and 26 bridges were built to enhance connectivity.
Under Phase-II, which aims to boost rural economic connectivity and development, Rajasthan undertook widening and strengthening projects on 401 roads covering 3,468 km, in addition to constructing 6 bridges. Phase-III focused on completing 950 road projects spanning 8,584.13 km to upgrade routes connecting rural agricultural markets, schools, hospitals, and other key rural link roads.
In the initial phase of Phase-IV, the Government of India allocated Rs 2,089.37 crore for constructing 1,216 roads covering a total length of 3,218.97 km, along with one bridge. Tenders for these projects have been approved, and the construction work has commenced with the aim of finishing within the next year. At the Silver Jubilee celebrations in Sehore district, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan recognized states for their exceptional achievements in various categories.
