Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Riyan Parag, has undergone shoulder surgery to address a long-standing injury that has troubled him for nearly two years. Despite battling recurring shoulder issues at domestic and international levels, the 24-year-old continued to play through discomfort. This injury had hindered his opportunities with the Indian team since his international debut in 2024.
Parag took to social media to announce the successful surgery and express his determination to focus on rehabilitation and a comeback to competitive cricket. The cricketer acknowledged the challenges he faced over the past two seasons, emphasizing the need for recovery, rehab, and patience as he looks forward to returning to the sport he loves.
Following a period of increased responsibilities both on and off the field, Parag was appointed as Rajasthan Royals’ full-time captain for IPL 2026. Despite a commendable performance that led the team to the playoffs, Rajasthan finished third after a narrow defeat to the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2. Parag’s injury woes also affected his national aspirations, leading to his withdrawal from the India A squad due to fitness concerns.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has outlined a rehabilitation plan for Parag under the supervision of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Before making a return to cricket, he must complete the prescribed recovery program and obtain medical clearance from the concerned authorities.
