Rajasthan plans to set up a cancer cell at the directorate level to enhance cancer screening and awareness statewide, as stated by Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Gayatri Rathore during a recent review meeting. Rathore, in a video conference with medical college Superintendents and other officials, emphasized the importance of maternal healthcare services, cancer screening, and readiness for seasonal illnesses. She instructed the mentoring of gynaecologists at government delivery centers by specialists from medical colleges.

To ensure doctors are well-versed in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical protocols, officials will conduct one-hour video conferencing sessions over the next five days. Rathore also stressed the need for timely interventions like blood transfusions and iron therapy to address severe anaemia in pregnant women. Additionally, the appointment of ‘Prasav Sakhis’ and the establishment of dedicated counters in hospitals are to be completed promptly.

In efforts to combat cancer effectively, Rathore announced the establishment of a Cancer Cell at the directorate level. She directed officials to maximize the use of cancer screening vans and promote information about screening camps well in advance. Moreover, CMHOs were tasked with creating a monthly calendar for organizing these screening camps.

As the monsoon season progresses, health officials were advised to gear up for preventing and controlling seasonal diseases and maintain a high level of alertness throughout the state. The meeting, attended by various health department officials, also saw discussions on initiatives like the use of Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments and the need for stringent adherence to prescribed protocols in healthcare facilities.
